The title of this diary is a comment I just left in another diary and which I think deserves it’s own spot on the list.
The rationales behind that statement are multiple and compelling:
1) Bezos’ interests are already deeply and pervasively entrenched in the USPS by virtue of Amazon’s contractual relationships with the Postal Service, and the USPS’ heavy reliance on Amazon for their bread and butter business.
2) Bezos has the financial ability to pull off a privatization takeover of the agency (is he still the world’s richest man?).
3) Bezos’ ego would likely jump at the chance, the animus between him and Trump being a likely driving factor.
4) He’s probably already thinking of myriad ways to “enhance the US Postal experience.”
5) Such a move would probably make Bezos the prime (pun, if you like) mover in the US economy as we emerge from the Trumpvirus era, a prospect he’s also likely to have considered with voracious glee.
6) Amazon’s choice to use the USPS for its sole delivery service may well have been undertaken with just this outcome as a long term goal.
So, if you want Donald Trump to buy into the rescue of the USPS, this is the argument you make. He will listen, get it, and instruct the Senate to get on board with a meaningful Postal Bailout bill.
